The UN Security Council extends the mandate of the UNDOF force on the Syrian-Israeli border
ARK News… The UN Security Council issued a resolution obligating the Syrian regime and Israel to strictly and fully respect the terms of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
The UN Security Council decided, in its session, on Thursday, June 27, 2024, to extend the mandate of the United Nations Force “UNDOF” for six months, until next December 31, to monitor the disengagement in the Golan for a period of six months, and adopted a unanimous resolution obligating the Syrian regime and Israel to strict and full respect” of the terms of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
The Security Council asked Antonio Gutierrez, Secretary-General of the United Nations, to ensure that the force is provided with the necessary capacity and resources to implement its mandate in a safe and secure manner.
The Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2737 of 2024, which will be issued as a document, calling on the parties to exercise the utmost levels of self-restraint and prevent any violations of the ceasefire and the buffer zone.
The resolution also calls on them to take full advantage of the liaison role played by the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force on a regular basis, to address issues of common concern.
The resolution calls on all groups other than UNDOF to abandon all UN sites and return vehicles, weapons and equipment to peacekeeping forces.
