ARK News... The city of Suwayda witnessed tension after the disappearance of Sheikh Raed Al-Matni, a prominent religious figure and one of the supporters of the peaceful popular movement in the governorate against the Syrian regime.

The Suwayda 24 Network said that local groups spread out on the night of Friday - Saturday, June 21 and 22, 2024 in the city of Suwayda, near Al-Basil Roundabout, after media sources announced the disappearance of Sheikh Raed Al-Matni, under mysterious circumstances.

In response to the disappearance of Sheikh Ahmed Al-Matni, a local faction announced, on Saturday morning, the detention of a number of officers and security personnel affiliated with the Syrian regime, and accused one of the regime’s security branches of kidnapping Sheikh Al-Matni.

According to media sources, contact with Sheikh Raed Al-Matni has been lost since the afternoon of Friday, June 21, 2024.

The Al-Matni family issued a statement about the disappearance of Sheikh Raed Al-Matni, and during the statement: “The family of Sheikh Raed Al-Matni accused security authorities of kidnapping him and fabricating pictures of him, and the incident comes as part of a systematic and open policy among Al-Ahrar.”

The statement stated: “Sheikh Raed Al-Matni was subjected to a kidnapping incident near his home in As-Suwayda, located west of the National Museum, and that these parties worked during the past days to blackmail him and fabricate charges against him, and spoke about fabricated pictures.”

In its statement, the family warned against “procrastinating his release and revealing his fate within a few hours, otherwise “our responses will be strict and all security branches will be our target.”

To prevent demonstrators from gathering, four bombs were thrown at dawn on Friday, June 21, 2024, separately in the area between Karama Square and the external police headquarters gate towards the square.
