ARK News… The European Union announced the extension of the “humanitarian exemption” it approved in the wake of last February’s earthquake disaster from the sanctions imposed on the Syrian regime, with the aim of facilitating the rapid delivery of humanitarian aid to Syria.

The German envoy to Syria, Stevan Schneck, stated that the European Council decided to extend humanitarian exemptions to the sanctions imposed on the Syrian regime, explaining that "we are reducing the bureaucratic obstacles facing our partners who provide assistance to the Syrian people to a minimum."

Schneck stressed that "all actors bear the responsibility to adhere to humanitarian principles," noting that the European Union has played its role.

Following the earthquake disaster, which struck northern Syria and southern Turkey on February 6, 2023, the European Union temporarily eased sanctions on the Syrian regime, to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Syria.
