Al-Bahra and Samson discuss the situation of Syrian refugees in Lebanon
ARK News… The head of the Syrian National Coalition discussed with the Deputy Head of the European Union Mission to the United Nations in New York the political process in Syria and the reasons for its stagnation.
In a tweet on the “X” platform, Hadi al-Bahra, head of the Syrian National Coalition, said that he met with Hedda Samson, Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to the United Nations in New York.
During the meeting, Hadi al-Bahra gave a detailed presentation on the conditions of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, and the violations they are exposed to in light of the current campaign to deport them and force them back, including political prisoners detained in Roumieh prison, in light of the continued lack of appropriate conditions for their voluntary, dignified and safe return.
Hadi al-Bahra stressed the importance of further international efforts to prevent these violations and prevent the deterioration of the situation in Lebanon.
Al-Bahra stated that he discussed with Hedda Samson the issue of humanitarian aid, its low levels, and how to increase the effectiveness of the current budget, by supporting productive capabilities in areas where displaced people are located, especially farmer support programs.
The head of the Syrian Coalition pointed to the huge deficit in securing funding for the humanitarian support budgets pledged by countries, as that budget was set at $4.07 billion in the current year 2024, but the actual funding for it did not exceed $200 million.
Al-Bahra stressed the need to push countries to fulfill their obligations, especially before holding the ministerial level of the Brussels Conference in its eighth edition.
