ARK News… Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, on Thursday, received Ezra Ziya, Undersecretary of the US State Department for Civil Security, Democracy, and Human Rights.

A statement from the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region stated that in the meeting attended by the US Ambassador to Iraq and a number of US State Department officials, “emphasis was placed on protecting human rights and developing democracy and freedoms in the Kurdistan Region.”

The role and influence of non-governmental organizations in society and the situation of displaced persons, refugees and components were also discussed. The two sides exchanged views on some criticisms and shortcomings in the field of human rights and freedoms, “and agreed on the importance of continuing joint cooperation of the relevant parties for both parties to improve these areas in the Kurdistan Region,” and stressed the development of common values and the protection of the rights of ethnic and religious components.

In addition to expressing appreciation for the culture of coexistence, tolerance, and diversity in the Kurdistan Region, Ezra Ziya expressed “the readiness of the relevant authorities in her country to provide support and cooperation to the Kurdistan Region in order to develop and develop the areas of human rights, freedoms, democracy, and the rule of law,” describing the Kurdistan Region as “an important partner of the United States.”

" According to the statement, “the situation of the Yazidis and the importance of implementing the agreement of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi federal government to normalize the situation in Sinjar, the Kurdistan Parliament elections, the voluntary return of the displaced, and the conditions and livelihood of the displaced and refugees in the camps” were other topics of the meeting.
