The United Nations approves funding for the independent institution concerned with detainees and missing persons in Syria

ARK News… Syrian media sources revealed that the Fifth United Nations Committee, the Administrative and Financial Committee, approved funding the independent institution concerned with detainees and missing persons in Syria.

Syrian media sources said that the member states voted on the project to finance the independent institution concerned with detainees and missing persons in Syria, with a majority of 71 votes, and 12 votes against, namely the Syrian regime, Russia, China, Iran, Belarus, North Korea, Cuba, Eritrea, Mali, Nicaragua, Sudan, and Zimbabwe, while 46 countries abstained from voting, including Arab countries except Qatar and Kuwait.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Djibouti, Iraq, Jordan, Oman, Tunisia and Yemen registered their abstention from voting on the draft resolution.

The draft resolution, led by Albania, would allocate approximately three million US dollars to the independent institution concerned with detainees and missing persons in Syria, including the creation of 28 jobs, during the period between April 1 and December 31, 2024.
