Pedersen calls on the Syrian regime to participate in the meetings of the Constitutional Committee in Geneva

ARK News… The United Nations envoy to Syria renewed the call on the Syrian regime to go to Geneva to participate in the next meeting of the Constitutional Committee, at the end of next April.

Geir Pedersen, the international envoy to Syria, told reporters after his meeting with the Syrian regime’s Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad in Damascus, that he informed the latter that “as long as there is no agreement between the opposition and the government, we must continue to meet in Geneva and develop the Constitutional Committee and the work of the committee in a way that can give hope to the Syrian people."

Pedersen's visit to Damascus comes after he said in a briefing before the Security Council, at the end of last February, that Moscow announced that it no longer considered Switzerland a neutral place, and as a result the Syrian regime did not accept to come to Geneva to hold the ninth round of meetings of the Constitutional Committee, based on an invitation that had been sent it months ago.
