European Union: Political transition in accordance with Resolution 2254 is the only way forward in Syria

ARK News… The European Union affirmed its support for the political process in Syria and the resumption of the work of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, stressing that the only way forward is a real political transition in accordance with UN Resolution 2254.

This came during a meeting held by the Chargé d’Affaires of the European Union Delegation to Syria, Dan Stonescu, with the Deputy Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Syria, Alpida Roca, during which views on Syria were exchanged.

Stonescu said that the European Union "is still convinced that the only way forward is to pressure to end the crisis, through a real political transition, consistent with Security Council Resolution 2254, under the auspices of UN envoy Geir Pedersen, and with the support of the main international and regional actors."

The European official stressed that this includes the European Union's support for the efforts of the UN envoy regarding his step-by-step approach to strengthening the political process, and the early resumption of the work of the Constitutional Committee.
