America: We are closely monitoring the Suwayda demonstrations and support the rights of peaceful gathering in Syria
ARK News… The United States envoy to Syria, and the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, confirmed that his country “continues to monitor the Suwayda demonstrations, and supports the Syrians’ exercise of the rights of peaceful assembly and freedom of expression,” stressing that Security Council Resolution 2254 is “the only viable political solution in Syria.”
In an interview with the local “Suwayda 24” website, the US envoy to Syria, Ethan Goldrich, said that the United States assured the Droz spiritual leader, Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri, “its support for the right of Syrians to peaceful gathering, including peaceful protest for dignity, freedom, safety, and justice.”
He added that the United States “continues to monitor reports of human rights violations and abuses throughout Syria, and supports the efforts of Syrian civil society to do so,” stressing that “justice and accountability for violations against Syrians are necessary to achieve a stable and just peace in Syria.”
Regarding the political process in Syria, Goldrich said that his country "still supports Resolution 2254, and the efforts of the UN envoy to Syria to provide a political solution to the crisis, including by convening the Constitutional Committee."
He said that the Syrian regime "remains the main obstacle to achieving progress towards a political solution to the conflict," stressing that "the Syrian regime must return to negotiations and enable its delegates to negotiate in good faith on behalf of the Syrian people, in accordance with Resolution 2254 of the UN Security Council."
Goldrich stressed that "a Syrian-led political solution, which represents the will of all Syrians as set out in Resolution 2254, remains the only viable solution."
