ARK News… The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said that the refugee and displaced persons crisis around the world has reached record levels, noting that the Syrian crisis has caused the largest number of displaced people.

The Commission announced in a tweet on the “X” platform that the number of people forced to flee their homes due to conflicts, persecution, violence and human rights violations exceeded 114 million people by the end of 2023.

Adding that it is "a record number that has not been recorded since the beginning of statistics, and this trend cannot be allowed to continue to rise."

It pointed out that "the Syrian crisis continues to cause the largest number of displaced people, as there are more than 5.3 million Syrian refugees registered in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt, in addition to 7.2 million displaced people inside Syria."

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights stressed that providing support to refugees and the countries hosting them is “vital.”
