During the year 2023... Documenting the killing of 1,032 civilians in Syria

ARK News… The Syrian Network for Human Rights documented the killing of 1,032 civilians in Syria at the hands of different parties to the conflict during the year 2023.

The Syrian Network in a report today, January 1, 2024, said that among the victims were 181 children, 150 women, and 57 victims of torture.

Adding that the killing of 91 civilians, including 14 children, 13 women, and 11 victims due to torture, was recorded in December 2023. According to the report, among the dead were 225 civilians at the hands of the Syrian regime, 20 at the hands of Russian forces, and 16 at the hands of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham.

It documented "the killing of 17 civilians at the hands of all armed opposition factions/the National Army, 74 at the hands of the Syrian Democratic Forces, and 5 civilians at the hands of the coalition forces." In addition to 674 civilians, including 102 children and 74 women, at the hands of “other parties.”

The report called on the Security Council to take additional measures after the issuance of Resolution No. 2254, and stressed the need to refer the Syrian file to the International Criminal Court and hold accountable all those involved in crimes against humanity and war crimes.

It also called on all relevant United Nations agencies to make more efforts in terms of humanitarian food and medical aid in areas where fighting has stopped, and in camps for internally displaced persons, and to follow up on countries that have pledged the necessary donations.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights report also recommended that all parties to the conflict provide detailed maps of the sites where they planted mines, especially civilian sites or those close to residential communities.
