More than 250 times... The regime approves a draft decision to raise customs fines
ARK News… The Syrian regime approved a draft decision to raise the amounts and fines stipulated in Customs Law No. 38 of 2006, thus increasing the value of customs fines more than 250 times.
Syrian media sources, on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, reported that the Syrian regime approved a draft decision to raise the amounts and fines stipulated in Customs Law No. 38 of 2006, as customs fines were based on the exchange rate in 2006, while according to the new government decision, fines are calculated according to the current exchange rate.
Media sources reported, citing an official in the regime’s customs, that the financial fines will be raised about 250 times, as the fines were from 1,000 to 2,000 liras according to Article 266, but with the new decision, they will become from 250,000 liras to 500,000 liras.
In a second article of the new decision, it was stated that the fines would range from 5 to 10 thousand liras, becoming according to the new regime’s decision from 750 thousand liras to 1.5 million liras, according to Al-Watan newspaper, which is close to the Syrian regime.
The amendment to the values of customs fines comes after inflation rates recorded record levels in Syria over the past years, in light of the failure of the Syrian regime to control the economic crisis that is worsening daily.
