America and Britain welcome the decision of the International Court of Justice regarding torture crimes in Syria

ARK News… America and Britain welcomed the decision of the International Court of Justice ordering the Syrian regime to stop torture crimes in its prisons, in the case brought by the Netherlands and Canada against it.

In a statement on the “X” website, the US Embassy in Syria said: “We welcome the decision of the International Court of Justice on preventive measures.”

The US Embassy in Syria added: “The decision is a major step towards holding the Assad regime accountable for its torture of thousands of Syrians.”

America stressed that "victims, survivors, and their families deserve justice and accountability for atrocities," stressing the need to "work seriously to achieve a political solution to achieve justice."

For its part, the British Embassy in Syria said on its account on the social networking site “X”: “We welcome the decision of the International Court of Justice in the pioneering case submitted by Canada and the Netherlands against the Syrian regime, which requires taking measures to prevent further torture and cruel and inhuman treatment practiced by... Syrian regime".

The British Embassy in Syria added: “The International Justice Department’s decision is a vital step towards achieving justice for the survivors and their families.”

On Thursday, 16/11/2023, the International Court of Justice issued a decision in which it ordered the Syrian regime to stop crimes of torture in its prisons, and to ensure the preservation of any possible evidence regarding allegations of torture, including medical reports and death records.
