5 Syrian refugees drowned off the Libyan coast
ARK News…. Five Syrian young men drowned in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, after the boat that was carrying them during their asylum journey to Europe sank off the Libyan coast.
Activists on social media published the names and pictures of the victims who hail from the city of Kanaker in Western Ghouta in the Damascus countryside.
The Libyan Coastal Security Command, "Wadi Al-Ul", said that, following a report from the marine radio station in Misrata, it recovered 4 unidentified bodies of migrants who were found at sea.
The International Organization for Migration said last April that 441 migrants and refugees drowned in early 2023 while trying to cross the Mediterranean from North Africa to Europe, which is the largest number of deaths recorded in three months during the past six years.
