Closing the Baath Party building in Suwayda

ARK News… As a continuation of the demonstrations demanding the overthrow of the Syrian regime in the Suwayda Governorate in southern Syria, the demonstrations have entered their seventy-eight days. Protesters closed, for the second time, the Baath Party headquarters building in the city.

According to local pages, dozens of Suwayda youth went out in a demonstration, demanding political transition in Syria. They closed the building of the Baath Party branch in the city of Suwayda with burning tires for the second time, after closing it late last August.

The local Suwayda 24 page published a video clip showing young men blocking the branch building with tires and shouting condemning slogans.

The page quoted one of the protesters, “The closure came due to the party’s leaders’ continued policy of incitement and hostility against citizens.”

On September 13, a group of demonstrators in Suwayda came under fire from Syrian regime forces holed up in the building, after the protesters attempted to re-close the headquarters, which led to three people being injured.

Demonstrations began in Suwayda and the surrounding towns last August, against the deteriorating economic conditions, and then the ceiling of demands increased to demanding the departure of the Assad regime, the implementation of UN Resolution 2254, the release of detainees, and the implementation of UN resolutions.
