The United Nations warns of the humanitarian situation in northwestern Syria
ARK News… The United Nations Deputy Envoy to Syria, Najat Rushdi, warned of the grim situation in which millions live in the northwestern regions of the country, and said that the highest priority should be preserving their lives.
Rushdi stressed the need to extend the period of allowing humanitarian aid to cross the border for a period of 12 months, given the increase in needs in those areas.
At the meeting of the Humanitarian Working Group in Geneva, Rushdie expressed her fears about the escalation of what she called hostilities and reports of civilian casualties, and stressed that the rights of individuals must be protected and they should enjoy safety and protection, reminding all parties of their obligations under international humanitarian law and that civilian infrastructure is not a target.
