Clarification on the closure of the Pish Khabour crossing

May 15 2023

ARK News… Escaping from facts is no longer available to the Democratic Union Party and its self-administration, which does not stop floundering and fabricating crises and problems, and it has always been our people in Syrian Kurdistan who pay the tax. It seems that the (PYD) party insists on not being convinced that the people in Syrian Kurdistan have become aware of the disasters from which no one was spared, and it is not strange for them to create pretexts to close the lifeline of the people.

By a decision of His Excellency President Masoud Barzani, 16.1.2013, the opening of the Pish Khabour-Semalka crossing was announced, to help our people in Syrian Kurdistan from all segments and components, and the Kurdistan Region has repeatedly emphasized the importance of maintaining the crossing for humanitarian services and the needs of the people. He was never stingy in carrying out his duty towards our people in all respects.

Despite the large number of political and technical problems that stood in the way of opening the crossing, His Excellency President Barzani insisted on shouldering the responsibility, in service of our people and our people in Syrian Kurdistan.

The work at the crossing has been expanded to include other areas, and without this crossing, thousands of expatriates or our brothers, the Kurds and Syrian Arabs settled in the region and outside it, would not have been able to visit their families in Syrian Kurdistan, but the incapacitating policies of the Democratic Union have always created problems and obstacles to the work of the crossing.

Since the opening of the crossing, three agreements were signed between the Kurdish National Council, the Democratic Society Movement, and the Democratic Union, under the auspices of President Masoud Barzani, and a clause was mentioned in the agreements regarding the joint management of the crossing, but the Democratic Union has always and never renounced every agreement, destroyed it and continued to dominate the borders from the political, economic and security aspects, continuing the policies of tyranny and one color, for the sake of his partisan interests. Rather, they resorted to the armed attack on the crossing and through their armed arms known as the so-called Revolutionary Youth, as happened last year in the attack on the crossing, documenting their invasion and re-publishing it through their yellow media channels, which did not serve the Kurdish cause as much as it sowed social discord and sowed discord and hatred.

The Democratic Union is aware of the number of times it tried to bring weapons, ammunition, and explosives into the region, whether through the crossing or the border, in order to sow unrest and strife and strike security stability in the Kurdistan Region. For nearly a year, they have been preventing cadres, leaders, and even those close to the Kurdish National Council and the Front for Peace and Freedom from crossing into Kurdistan, and imposed house arrest on them, and they are not allowed to leave through the crossing, while they allow all strangers to cross freely. Rather, the Democratic Union takes actions that would antagonize all parties, which are unprecedented movements for the Kurds in Syrian history, to subject an entire people to live under house arrest, bearing in mind that the dictatorial policies of the Democratic Union are still stuck in the minds of kidnapping, killing, imprisoning and torturing Kurdish activists and all those political opinions against them.

Let the Democratic Union realize that this behavior of theirs, their arrogance, and their morals will not deviate us from bearing everything for the benefit of our people in Syrian Kurdistan, but it was not out of fear or reckoning with them, and no one is indebted to them, or obligated to implement what they desire. Two years ago, our allies in the international coalition forces, and the American side in particular, are aware of the PYD's violations, and they tried to change their practices and put an end to their violations, but they insist not to back down from them.

We say it openly to our people in Syrian Kurdistan, with all its components: We have endured a lot of pressure and grave mistakes of the Democratic Union, and the continuation of the policy of making accusations arbitrarily against Kurdistan without any basis, and they crossed the red lines, and repeated conspiracies and hatreds. We tried a lot with them to change their behavior, but they always close the doors and block the roads and find only themselves right. We endured everything only for the sake of our people, but we reached the point of not accepting and putting up. Therefore, we say it to the people in Syrian Kurdistan, that the combination of these actions prompts us to deeply reconsider the nature of the relationship with the Democratic Union and the administration present at the crossing, and the people also have the right not to accept more of these practices, and to appreciate our position, and we promise them to continue our attempts according to our capabilities so that our people will not be harmed.

The Democratic Union must leave their false and false slogans that no one believes anymore, and their continuation of dictatorship and tyranny that made house arrest the only option for our people who have endured the horrors of them. Accordingly, we apologize to our people, that we cannot remain spectators of their tyranny, dictatorship, and non-Kurdish and inhumane movements, and we will not become their partners in it. This crossing must remain at the service of everyone, not just one party, and away from political interference, in a practical and realistic way, and not just with slogans.
