Schulz: The conditions for joining the European Union are the same for all, and there are no exceptions for Ukraine

ARK News… German Chancellor Olaf Schulz declared that all countries wishing to join the European Union must meet the criteria of the rule of law, democracy, respect for human rights, and the fight against corruption.

In response to a journalist's question about the realisticness of Ukraine's plans to join the European Union by the end of 2024, Schulz said in an interview with the newspaper "Bild am Sonntag":

In fact, we made Moldova and Ukraine candidates for membership in the European Union last summer, which was a strong signal.

Each candidate country must meet the criteria to become a member of the European Union - the rule of law, democracy, respect for human rights, and the fight against corruption.

In response to whether Ukraine has any "military reward" in this field, Schulz replied that the conditions for joining the European Union "are the same for all."

On February 28, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky signed an application for Ukraine's accession to the European Union. The leaders of states and governments in the European Union agreed at their summit in Brussels on June 23 to grant Ukraine and Moldova the status of candidates for accession to the Union.

Before starting talks with the European Union in this regard, these two countries must implement a number of conditions, including carrying out reforms and strengthening the fight against corruption.
