Ukraine: We hope to use Western tanks in the spring
ARK News… Ukraine's armed forces intend to form at least two tank battalions from supplies promised by Western countries, which will be used to "continue the counter-offensive" towards Russia.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov on Monday, confirmed that Ukrainian forces will start using Western tanks in hostilities, most likely, in the spring.
"I hope we'll start using it, maybe in the spring," Reznikov said in an interview with the Canadian television channel CBC.
According to the minister, the Ukrainian armed forces intend to form at least two tank battalions from the supplies promised by Western countries, which will be used to "continue the counterattack" towards Russia.
Reznikov expressed his confidence that Western countries will continue to provide Kyiv with tanks in the future, explaining: "This (the announcement of the supply of tanks) is not the end of the story, but only its beginning."
On January 25, the US authorities announced their intention to provide Kyiv with 31 M1 Abrams tanks. In turn, the German government confirmed that it will send to Ukraine 14 tanks "Leopard 2" from the reserves of the German forces, and will allow other countries to re-export them to Ukraine.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Leopard 2 tanks will be sent to Ukraine "before the end of March." The Norwegian and Slovak defense ministries also announced their intention to deliver the tanks to Ukraine. Earlier, the authorities of Britain, France, and Poland announced a similar decision.
