Contents of the meeting between President Nechirvan Barzani and the Commander-in-Chief of the International Coalition Forces

ARK News... During a meeting on Sunday, October 16, 2022, held between the President of the Kurdistan Region, Mr. Nechirvan Barzani, and the Commander-in-Chief of the International Coalition Forces in Iraq and Syria, General Matthew MacFarlane, and his accompanying delegation.

Views were exchanged on the latest security developments, threats, and dangers of terrorism and confronting ISIS in Iraq and Syria, the recent memorandum of understanding signed by the Pentagon with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the reform process in the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs and the reorganization of the Peshmerga forces.

The two sides stressed the importance of continued support and aids from the international coalition for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region until the final elimination of ISIS and getting rid of its danger and threat to the security and stability of Iraq, Syria, and the region in general.

In this context, General MacFarlane reiterated the commitment of the international coalition to continue supporting Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in the war on terrorism, and the two sides saw the need for cooperation and coordination between the Iraqi army and the Peshmerga in confronting ISIS.

The internal conditions of the Kurdistan Region, the latest developments in the political process, the election of the President of the Republic of Iraq and the assignment of the Prime Minister in charge of forming the new cabinet of the Iraqi federal government, the latest developments in the region in general, and other issues of common concern, formed another focus of the meeting, which was attended by the Minister of Peshmerga Affairs in the Regional Government Kurdistan and the US Consul General in the Kurdistan Region.
