ARK News... A video clip from the Afrin region in Syrian Kurdistan showed that a number of olive trees had been cut down by armed factions, with the aim of searching for burials and antiquities.

A civilian (N.M), a pseudonym, in statements to ARK, on Monday, April 11, 2022, said that the militants of the Elite Army cut down twenty-five olive trees in the village of Sheikh Shekhoutka, in the Mabata town, in search of burials.

The same civilian added: The search process was carried out using heavy machinery (Trucks), which resulted in the bulldozing of the agricultural field and the destruction of uncut trees.

Since the invasion of Turkey and the armed factions, in 2018, the armed factions have continued systematically to cut down trees for the purpose of trafficking and selling them as firewood or in search of burials and antiquities. According to the latest statistics issued by the Human Rights Organization in Afrin, nearly two million fruitful, non-fruitful, forest and mountain trees have been burned or cut down.
