Jeffrey renews his warnings to the UAE about the normalization of relations with the Assad regime
ARK News.. The American envoy for Syrian affairs, James Jeffrey, renewed his warnings to the UAE about the sanctions that it would face if it continued its efforts to normalize relations with the Syrian regime.
Jeffrey said in a press conference that the UAE may be subject to sanctions under the “Caesar’s Law”, and that Abu Dhabi “knows very well that the United States strongly opposes the normalization of relations with the Assad regime”.
Jeffrey commented on the reopening of the UAE embassy in Damascus: “They are an independent country, they can make these decisions, but we made it clear to them that this is a very bad idea.” He indicated that these steps will not help in implementing Security Council resolutions or "ending the conflict, which is a problem for the entire region."
The American envoy emphasized that any company or individual, whether Emirati or otherwise, would be subject to sanctions if any one of them cooperated with the Assad regime.
