KRG: The number of people fleeing from the Turkish operation approaches 19,839 refugees

ARK News: According to statistics issued by the Joint Crisis Coordination Center of the Ministry of Interior in the Kurdistan Region, the number of Syrian refugees arriving in the Kurdistan Region after the Turkish military operation in eastern Euphrates in Syria from the ninth of last month until the twenty of January, 2020, approached 19,839 refugees.

The number of Syrian refugees living in the Kurdistan region of Iraq before the Turkish military operation is about 230 thousand Syrian refugees, about 40% of them reside in nine camps in the provinces of Duhok, Erbil, and Sulaimaniyah, about 19, 839 Syrian refugees have arrived in the Kurdistan region after the Turkish military operation.

According to the center: Yesterday, Sunday 19 January, 94 refugees arrived, thus the total number has increased to 19,893 displaced people.

The United Nations is concerned that 50,000 Syrian refugees will cross in the short term to the Kurdistan region if the current situation in northeastern Syria continues to remain intenseness.

With the start of the military invasion, hundreds of thousands of Kurdish, Arab and Christian families have fled to safer areas, due to their fears that armed factions may commit war crimes similar to their violations that have committed in the Kurdish region of Afrin.
