ARK News: Kurdistan Region's Peshmerga Ministry has argued that the Islamic State (IS) has not been defeated yet, adding that the insurgent group has continued to target the security forces and civilians in the region.

Speaking to BasNews, Ministry's Secretary General, Jabbar Yawar, explained that the jihadist group has continued to carry out attacks in small groups and with different techniques of fighting, "which has become a threat to the region and the world."

"It [the IS group] has not died to re-emerge, it actually had halted their terrorist attacks for a while. For example, the militants of Da’esh conducted 456 terrorist attacks in 2018 which resulted in the killing or wounding of 1746 people," Yawar said, using an Arabic acronym for the jihadist group.

However, he further pointed out that there was a decrease in the group's activities in the following year in comparison to the previous years.

"They carried out 238 terrorist activities in 2019," the top Peshmerga official concluded.
