Barzani’s Message on New Year’s Eve
ARK News: Kurdish prominent leader and the president of ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, released a message on the eve of the New Year, in which he reiterated support for the reform plans in Kurdistan and the efforts to develop the region into a more prosperous one.
Wishing the people of Kurdistan a happy new year, Barzani thanked them for staying strong in the face of the hardships. He also remembered the fallen Peshmerga troops by sending special new year wishes to their families.
“Thanks to God, the sacrifices Peshmerga forces made, and the resistance of the people, Kurdistan Region is marching towards prosperity, reforms, and stability now,” reads the message.
On the current situation in Iraq and the ongoing unrest, Barzani reminded that Kurds have always been in favor of stability and improved welfare for the entirety of Iraq. “In the past few years, we have been repeatedly warning about an uncertain future for Iraq if the constitution is not implemented,” the Kurdish leader added.
Reiterating support for the “legitimate demands” of the protesters, Barzani said he is monitoring the developments in Iraq with deep concern, and he urged political factions to prevent Iraq from turning into a battlefield for regional and international conflicts.
He also rejected any attempt that could undermine the democratic process in Iraq and harm the constitutional rights of the Kurds and other components, saying that the reasons for the current issues are the violations against constitution and false governance, not the rights given by the constitution to the Kurds and other components.
