A communiqué issued by the meeting of the Kurdish National Council in Syria
ARK News: The Kurdish National Council held its regular meeting on December 27, 2019 and discussed the items mentioned in its work schedule, after standing for a minute of silence in mourning for the lives of the Kurdish martyrs and the immortal spirit of Barzani and all the martyrs of freedom:
1- At the Syrian national level
The meeting discussed the political situation in the light of the current developments, stressing the importance of the international powers involved in the Syrian crisis and exercising their responsibilities and role to find a solution to the existing crisis in the country by implementing relevant UN resolutions to end the suffering of the Syrian people, and the need to expedite the drafting of a new constitution that meets the aspirations of the Syrians with all their national and religious components, and guarantees their rights and freedoms, any procrastination or delay is considered a waste of time at the expense of the interest and suffering of the Syrian people. Regarding the council’s position and its efforts for the unity of the Kurdish position, the meeting stressed the importance of achieving the unity of the Kurdish position, and positively evaluated the statement issued by the Presidency of the Council on the statement of the Self-Administration Authority of the Democratic Union Party, regarding the “SDF” initiative, and it considered that it is important to accelerate the implementation of confidence-building measures with the council by the PYD in an integrated and undivided manner, especially the release of the detainees of the council in preparation for entering into a meaningful dialogue on the basic and crucial issues that concern the interest of our Kurdish people and serve its cause.
The meeting condemned the continuous violations and demographic changes taking place in Afrin, Sari Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), Gire Spi (Tal Abyad) and the countryside of Tal Tamr, by some armed groups loyal to the Turkish army, and demanded the international community to take a firm stand against these violations of custom and international law, and to work for the return of the displaced people to their homes in peace and security, and to remove all armed groups from these areas and hand them over to the indigenous people through a civil administration and a local police to control security and international sponsorship, and provide the perpetrators of plundering, looting and kidnapping to the special courts to hold them accountable.
The meeting appealed to various civil society organizations and international relief agencies to provide assistance to refugees and displaced people in the Kurdish areas controlled by the Turkish army and its Syrian armed groups.
2- At the internal level of the Council
The meeting decided to hold the fourth Kurdish national conference during the coming period, and specialized committees were formed to follow up implementation, the meeting also called on all council offices and bodies to activate their role and do what is necessary in the field of expanding communication with the masses with various national and religious components in order to enhance social relations and maintain civil peace, and with the various national opposition forces to establish cooperation and constructive coordination with them in the field of seeking a political solution in accordance with international resolutions, and it supported resolving the Kurdish issue through the constitutional recognition of the Kurdish people and their national rights in accordance with international covenants and covenants.
