ARK News: Secretary of the Syrian National Coalition’s political committee, Riyad Al-Hassan, warned Russia against blocking the renewal of a UN Security Council’s resolution on the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need in Syria. He stressed that Russia does not fulfill its international obligations nor does it respect the very resolutions it took part in drafting.

Al-Hassan said that Russia would make a grave mistake and commit another crime against the Syrian people if it blocks the renewal of UN resolution 2165 on humanitarian aid or if it puts new restrictions requiring that aid be delivered via the regime-controlled border crossings. He pointed out that Russia is seeking to enable the regime to seize UN aid and distribute it to its thugs thus denying much-needed aid to 13 million Syrians in urgent need.

Al-Hassan said that Russia vowed to deliver humanitarian aid in the Astana 14 meeting, but now it is raining bombs on the town of Maaret al-Numan in rural Idlib, killing children and women.

The war crimes taking place in Idlib, coupled with attempts to block the delivery of humanitarian aid and disrupt the work of the Constitutional Committee, show the true face of Russia and the grudge it harbors against the Syrian people which it is seeking to starve and prolong their suffering.

Al-Hassan slammed Russia's “irresponsible use of its veto power which paralyzed the UN Security Council and made it unable to hold the criminal regime accountable. He said that the Russian veto also crippled the UN Security Council from assuming its duties to protect Syrian civilians and demanded that Russia be stripped of its veto power which is shielding Bashar al-Assad and his thuggish regime.
