Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate – Syria holds the regime and the PYD responsibility for knowing the fate of one of its members
ARK News: On the fifth anniversary of the kidnapping of the journalist Farhad Hamo, on Sunday 15 December 2019, the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate - Syria issued a statement in which it held the regime and the PYD responsibility for knowing his fate. ARK Media Foundation received a copy of the statement, saying:
Yesterday marked passing five years of the kidnapping of the journalist colleague Farhad Hamo, a member of the Kurdistan-Syria Press Syndicate and a correspondent for the Kurdish media network, Rudaw, by ISIS the terrorist and his fate is still unknown, despite the many appeals requested by human rights bodies and organizations and international press bodies to reveal his fate.
The journalist colleague, Farhad Hamo, was kidnapped by the terrorist organization of ISIS along with his colleague, photographer Masoud Aqeel, on December 15, 2014, when he went on a journalistic mission in Syrian Kurdistan, and about eleven months later, colleague Masoud Aqeel was released in a prisoner exchange deal between ISIS and the YPG near the town of Al-Hol in the southern countryside of Hasaka on September 21, 2015, through tribal mediators, but the journalist Farhad Hamo his fate is still unknown so far, despite all the promises that his liberation will come close from the grip of ISIS the terrorist.
During the liberation of the town of Bagouz, which belongs to the countryside of Deir al-Zour, in March this year, we contemplated with the family of colleague Farhad the possibility of finding him, especially since the ISIS detainees and prisons are now in the custody of the SDF, and, despite promises that he will be released soon and have been reached, no firm information has been found regarding colleague Hamo so far. And it was required from the self-administration authority to obtain useful information for knowing his fate and to communicate the truth about his situation to his family, after the arrest of leaders and senior officials in this terrorist organization.
We, in the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate -Syria, are deeply concerned by the continued disappearance of the colleague Farhad Hamo, as we hold the Syrian government and self-administration the responsible for knowing his fate, and we appeal to all bodies and international humanitarian and media organizations to contribute to knowing his news and determining his fate, and we demand these organizations to create climates that contribute to protecting journalists in Syria in general, as they are still the most dangerous area for journalists to work.
