ARK News: the United Nations on Wednesday, expressed grave concern about the fate of millions of civilians stranded in northwestern Syria, as a result of the towns and communities being subjected to air and artillery shelling by the regime forces and its allies in the past days.

The spokesman for the United Nations Secretary-General, Stephen Dujarric, told in a press conference that the United Nations Human Rights Office has documented the killing of 1,000 people between the last April and August, and the displacement of about 400,000 civilians.

Dujarric added: "It was reported that at least 10 people were killed in an airstrike that targeted a popular market in Maarat al-Numan in Idlib Governorate," calling on all the conflicting parties to reduce the escalation in northwestern Syria and to protect civilians as stipulated by international humanitarian law
