A Kurdish family from Afrin displaces 8 times to end up in Bardarash camp

ARK News: Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper, monitored the tragedy of a Kurdish family displaced from Afrin, due to the Turkish military operation, to Al-Shahba, passing through the areas of the Island in Syrian Kurdistan and reaching the Bardarash camp in Kurdistan region, and in a report for the newspaper published on November 29, 2019, monitors the tragedy of the Kurdish family and how they displaced eight times to end up in the Bardarash camp .

One night in March 2018, when the Turkish army and pro-Syrian factions launched a large-scale assault on the city of Afrin, north of Aleppo, a shell landed on Mamo's house, causing its roof to collapse and its walls collapsed, while he and his family were there, which caused a severe fracture in his foot and arm, and then led him and his wife to flee under the barrage of gunfire and the intensity of the battles with his wounds, he walked on the road on foot despite his condition until he reached the neighboring areas of Al-Shahba, where he stayed until his condition recovered, but his feet were torn and his limbs were broken with the help of crutches.

He remained there for nearly three months and due to the siege imposed on him and the lack of doctors and the absence of specialized hospitals, he decided to move for the second time to the areas of the Syrian Island in the east, and then the family went to the town of Tal Tamr in the middle of the same year and lived in the village of Tal Nasri, about five kilometers south of Tal Tamr.

With scattered words and low voice which was hardly heard, Mamo continued his words saying: “ I lost land and olive trees, and thank God for all, we stayed there for about a year and two months, but the Turkish invasion and war inflicted on us”.

Turkey and its Syrian armed groups, on October 9, began a military offensive in northeastern Syria that reached the outskirts of Tal Tamr, made to push Mamo and his family to escape for the third time, but this time they chose to seek refuge in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, and arrived a month ago to the camp “ Bardarash”, waiting for many like the end of the raging wars in his country, and expressed fear, saying: “I am afraid to stay here months and perhaps for years, wars do not end, but life "It's like living in a closed camp."

Another family from a displaced family from Afrin.tells her story with sorrow in the word of Hevidar saying: "We fled from Afrin as a result of heavy shelling to Kobani and from Kobani to Tal Tamr and passing through the Island and then to Rumilan, so we fled eight times in 20 months".

The camp is located in Bardarash district, 70 km north of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan region. It is administratively affiliated to Duhok governorate, and according to its administration, the camp is home to some 2,500 families, estimated to number 11,000 refugees.

The number of Syrian refugees in the Kurdistan region is about 275 thousand refugees, about 85 thousand refugees live in the camps, where the region includes 9 camps, 4 of which are located in the province of Duhok, the same number in the capital Erbil, and one camp in the province of Sulaimaniyah, the number increased after the arrival of new batches where More than 25 thousand entering the territory.
