Pompeo justifies Trump's decision
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo justified on Friday the President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw part of the US forces from Syrian Kurdistan, announced saying that Washington had succeeded in achieving its goals in Syria.
"We have achieved our goals," Pompeo said in a speech at Rice University in Houston. "We have ensured the air cover of our operations (against ISIS), and this has become an important factor in the success of the process. America should be proud of what we have done there."
The minister considered that the withdrawal of US troops from "northern Syria" will not endanger the security of the United States, pointing out that his country maintains a large force in Iraq, in addition to the survival of a significant number of US military personnel in Syrian Kurdistan.
Donald Trump announced, in late October, the withdrawal of US soldiers from an area where Turkey is engaged in a military operation in Syrian Kurdistan. However, Trump reiterated the United States' determination to retain control of its oil fields.
