Esber: We will respond with overwhelming force to any attack on the oil fields in the eastern Euphrates
ARK News: The United States will counter any attempt to wrest control of Syria's oil fields from US-backed Syrian armed groups using "overwhelming force", whether the Islamic State adversary or forces backed by Russia or Syria, the Pentagon said on Monday.
"US forces will remain in this strategic area to prevent the Islamic State from reaching those vital resources, and we will respond with overwhelming force to any group that threatens the safety of our troops there," Esber told reporters at the Pentagon.
He was asked if the US military's mission included preventing any Russian or Syrian government forces from reaching the oil fields, Esber said: "The short answer is yes, it does."
