Nechirvan Barzani Sworn in as the President of Kurdistan
ARK News: The new President of Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, took oath today during a parliamentary session and a massive ceremony in Erbil.
Barzani read the wording of the oath while holding his hand on the Quran saying: “I swear to the God, I will defend the rights, achievements, unity, and the interests of the people of Kurdistan, and fulfill my responsibility properly and with loyalty,”
The ceremony was attended by Masoud Barzani, the charismatic Kurdish political leader and the former president of Kurdistan Region.
Iraqi President Barham Saleh, parliament speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi, and many other Kurdish, Iraqi and foreign leaders were also present at the inauguration.
Barzani will later name the next prime minister of Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, who will have 30 days to form the new cabinet.
The Kurdistan Parliament, in May, elected Nechirvan Barzani, the President of the Kurdistan region by 68 votes, out of the total votes of 81 deputies attended the session of parliament.
Because of the large attendance, the Parliament of Kurdistan has decided to hold a session of the oath performance in the hall of martyr Saad Abdullah (one of the largest halls of events in the capital of Erbil
