Afrin … Fires devour farmland in Sherawa

ARK News: Lands and agricultural fields in Mount Lelon in the Kurdish region of Afrin were exposed to fires on Saturday, May 25, 2019, where the inhabitants put out the fire in simple ways as the charge fingers were pointed towards the armed factions.

According to local sources, agricultural lands in both the villages of Barade and Burj Al-Qasim in the Sherawa area were exposed to fires and a large number of agricultural trees and large areas of wheat and barley fields were completely burnt.

A private source from Afrin told the ARK Media Foundation that "Sherawa and Mount Lelon" areas which are located in southeast of Afrin are known for its strong blowing air, that made the fire to spread to other areas to cover large areas of agricultural land.

The sources added that the armed factions are behind the deliberately set fire to those fields and agricultural trees.

Afrin region between time and time has witnessed fires in fields and civilian property, were the Human Rights Organization in Afrin reported that in the year 2018 alone, 40 sites in the area were exposed to fires, which resulted in the burning of 5,000 olive trees and 300 hectares of agricultural land and the majority of the fires were made deliberately by the armed factions and groups.
