Afrin: Abduction of a local council member and two others

ARK News: The military police of the armed groups in the Kurdish region of Afrin kidnapped a member of the local council of Jenderes and took him to an unknown destination, while two civilians were kidnapped by Hamzat militias on Wednesday 22 May 2019.

The Human Rights Organization in Afrin said in a report published on Friday, May 24, 2019, that the military police of the armed factions kidnapped Gigarkhuin Ismail bin Ahmed. Member of the local council of Jenderes town and no information about him until now.

The organization also added that Ismail was kidnapped 20 days ago and his fate still remains unknown. In Sherawa, al-Hamzat militias kidnapped Walid Suleiman Khudir on 22.5.2019 from Aqibe village and Youssef Shamouni, 44 years old, and took them to an unknown destination.

The organization stated that the charge against them was the deal with the PYD according to their claims, demanding payment of ransom for their release.

The suffering of Kurdish people in “Çiyayê Kurmênc” region (Afrin) continues to be experienced by the armed factions and groups, where the region is witnessing daily violations of killing, torturing, kidnapping, theft and imposition of taxes as voices rise in the output of these factions and Arab settlers families and the return of indigenous Kurds to the region and the establishment of security and peace and stability.
