Suwayda: Al-Shofi Family Demands Authorities Reveal Fate of Missing Relatives
ARK News.. The al-Shofi family in Suwayda has held the Syrian interim authorities fully responsible for the fate of their missing relatives, who disappeared on Monday while traveling on the Damascus–Suwayda road.
In a strongly worded statement, the family condemned what it called a “cowardly act” and demanded immediate disclosure of their whereabouts and safe return.
The missing individuals are identified as Saad Mashari al-Shofi, Shadi Qablan al-Shofi, Murad Nayel al-Shofi, Asim Walid Sadiq, and driver Fadi Khair. Their last known location was near the Qasr al-Mu’tamarat checkpoint at the entrance to Damascus before communication with them was abruptly cut off.
“This road, which is supposed to be a safe humanitarian passage, has turned into a tool for kidnapping and intimidation,” the statement read.
According to Suwayda 24 network, the five men were on their way from Suwayda to Lebanon. Witnesses reported seeing their car near Qasr al-Mu’tamarat before it suddenly vanished from sight.
Sources close to the families say communication was lost with all five simultaneously. No confirmed information has surfaced so far, with speculation ranging between kidnapping for ransom and arbitrary detention by security services.
One family reported receiving a phone call demanding a ransom, but the identity of the caller remains unverified, leaving the men’s fate uncertain.

US House of Representatives Approves Extension of Aid to Syria Through 2026
ARK News… The US House of Representatives has passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2026, with a vote of 231 in favor and 196 against. The legislation includes key provisions extending US support for Iraq and Syria, while also strengthening oversight of Turkey’s activities in the region.
The bill allocates $212.516 million to the Counter-ISIS Training and Equipment Fund for FY 2026, in addition to $130 million for programs supporting trusted Syrian groups combating ISIS inside Syria, and $15 million for Lebanon for the same purpose.
It also mandates that the US Departments of Defense and State prepare a detailed report on Turkey’s operations in Syria and Iraq, to determine whether the country is aiding terrorist organizations or committing violations that trigger humanitarian crises among civilians.
Last Thursday, the House voted overwhelmingly to repeal prior authorizations for the use of military force related to Iraq, as part of the NDAA, which sets Washington’s military policies.
The House had previously approved the repeal of the 2002 authorization in 2021, while the Senate passed legislation in 2023 repealing both authorizations. Lawmakers say this repeal represents an important legislative step toward rebalancing executive and legislative powers in decisions over war.
