The process of exchanging prisoners between the regime and the opposition

ARK News: The Russian Defense Ministry announced that the Syrian regime carried out a new operation to exchange prisoners with the armed opposition factions in Aleppo countryside, including 9 prisoners from each side.

According to the Russian “Himaimim” Center in Syria of the Ministry mentioned in a statement that 9 Syrian citizens detained in armed opposition group were exchanged on April 22 in the area of the city of Tadef in the province of Aleppo groups with 9 elements of the illegal armed groups”.

The statement added that "the exchange process was carried out with the participation of representatives of the Russian, Turkish and Iranian defense ministries within the framework of the activities of the working group formed as a result of the international meeting on Syria in Astana on December 22, 2017."

The statement pointed out that “the exchange took place in the presence of observers from the Syrian Red Crescent and the Director of the United Nations Office in Damascus, Alaa Abdul Aziz”.

According to the Turkish media, the exchange took place at the line of contact in the area of Abu al-Zindeen of the city of al-Bab in eastern rural Aleppo.

Two exchanges had already carried out between the two sides through the working group, the first on 24 November 2018 and the second on 12 February this year.
