Trump Signals Possible Resumption of Attacks, Threatens to “Annihilate” Iran
ARK News – Erbil
U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated that Washington could resume military attacks on Iran after the midterm elections, while claiming that the United States has established full control over the Strait of Hormuz and leaving open the possibility of reaching a deal with Tehran that could bring oil prices back to previous levels.
According to TIME magazine, Trump said in an interview that resuming military operations against Tehran after the congressional midterm elections was “possible.” The interview was conducted on September 28 and published on October 1.
Trump also said he could “annihilate” Iran, while reiterating Washington’s opposition to Tehran possessing a nuclear weapon. He said Iran could not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.
Trump further claimed that the United States had established complete control over the strategic waterway, saying Washington had closed the Strait of Hormuz to Iran and was “in complete control” of it.
He also pointed to continued energy supplies reaching global markets, saying the United States had transported its largest-ever volume of oil through the Strait of Hormuz the previous night.
Despite the threat of renewed military action, Trump indicated that a diplomatic path remained possible, saying that the U.S. position on Iran was very strong and that Tehran wanted to reach an agreement. His comments came amid ongoing efforts by mediators to revive talks between Washington and Tehran.
Trump linked the diplomatic track to global energy markets, saying oil prices, which have experienced sharp fluctuations, would fall back toward previous levels once a deal with Tehran was reached.
