President Barzani: The Kurds in Syria are a dear part of our body, and we are sons of one nation.

ARK News.. President Masoud Barzani said that “the Kurds in Syria are a cherished part of our body,” stressing that the Kurds in Syria and the Kurdistan Region are “members of one nation.”

In an interview with Al Sharqiya TV broadcast on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, President Barzani discussed the situation of the Kurds in Syria and political developments in Iraq, stressing the importance of dialogue and rejecting fighting and wars.

Regarding Kurdish rights in Syria, President Barzani said: “We had hoped that the Kurds in Syria would receive more than what they have obtained, and that was possible.” “There is a new opportunity in Syria, and we are not in favor of fighting and wars,” he added.

He continued: “We are helping the Kurds in Syria preserve their status and reach an understanding with the government in Damascus.” On the situation in Iraq, President Barzani said, "No centralized system will continue in Iraq,” stressing that “the role of the Kurdistan Region cannot be marginalized.”

He noted that “implementing the Constitution will lead to resolving Iraq’s problems,” adding that “governance in Iraq will be paralyzed in the absence of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Sadrist movement.”

Regarding the issue of weapons, President Barzani warned of the consequences of failing to resolve the matter, saying, "Failing to resolve the weapons issue means heading toward major problems in Iraq.”

On Article 140 of the Iraqi Constitution, President Barzani stressed, "It is unacceptable to speak of the expiration of Article 140 of the Constitution.”
