KNC in Syria Welcomes Completion of Peshmerga Unification
ARK News.. The General Secretariat of the Kurdish National Council (KNC) in Syria has issued a statement welcoming and congratulating the official announcement of the completion of the unification and reorganisation of all Peshmerga forces under the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs in the Kurdistan Region.
The statement was issued on Wednesday, September 23, following the announcement of the unification of the Peshmerga forces.
The KNC said the Peshmerga’s struggle and sacrifices in defending the people of Kurdistan on various fronts, including against the Anfal campaign, chemical weapons, genocide and terrorism, constitute an established part of Kurdish history and the gains and rights achieved by the Kurdish people.
The council welcomed the official announcement, made on Monday, September 21, during a ceremony at the Kurdistan Region Presidency headquarters, describing the move as an important institutional achievement that strengthens unified decision-making, establishes a single security and military authority, and reinforces the Region’s gains and constitutional status within a federal, democratic Iraq.
The KNC praised the efforts that contributed to completing the process, particularly the role of President Masoud Barzani, the Kurdistan Region leadership and Kurdistan political parties in advancing the process and overcoming obstacles.
The council said the move responds to the aspirations of the people of Kurdistan and repeated calls from friends and allies, while strengthening the foundations of stability in the Region amid the transformations and challenges facing the wider region.
The KNC stressed that the importance of the achievement lies in building on it to further integrate and strengthen the Region’s institutions and harmonize its political, security and military decision-making, in a way that protects its gains and unity, strengthens its ability to confront challenges, and safeguards the rights of the people of Kurdistan.
