Al-Sharaa: Relations with the Kurdistan Region Are “Excellent”; We Value Its Role in Syria’s Stability

ARK News.. Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa praised the relations between Damascus and the Kurdistan Region, as well as his ties with President Masoud Barzani, emphasising shared economic, political and security interests between the two sides.

Speaking during a dialogue session with the Atlantic Council in New York on Tuesday, September 23, 2026, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, al-Sharaa said relations between Syria and the Kurdistan Region are “very good", describing his relationship with President Masoud Barzani as "excellent".

He added that the Kurdistan Region and President Barzani had made a significant contribution to helping stabilise the situation in Syria and facilitate the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into the Syrian state.

Al-Sharaa stressed that the shared interests between the two sides include economic, political and security issues, highlighting the importance of relations with the Kurdistan Region and with President Masoud Barzani, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.
