Four Yezidi Kurds have won seats in the municipal council elections in the city of Oldenburg, in Germany’s Lower Saxony state.

According to the officially announced results, Dara Bako and Nujdar Saeed, who originate from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, as well as Leyla Duman and Guzal Tolan, who are from Turkish Kurdistan, secured seats on the city’s municipal council.

The result reflects the growing and active presence of the Kurdish community in local decision-making institutions in Germany, as well as its increasing engagement in political life and state institutions in the diaspora.
