Nechirvan Barzani Receives New US Chargé d’Affaires to Iraq Stephen Fagen

ARK News.. Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Stephen Fagen, the new U.S. Chargé d’Affaires to Iraq, on Monday, September 14, 2026, congratulating him on assuming his new post and wishing him success in his duties. He reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s readiness to support him in carrying out his mission.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed Iraq and the Kurdistan Region’s relations with the United States and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various fields. They also reviewed the internal situation in Iraq, relations between Erbil and Baghdad, and the importance of resolving outstanding issues through dialogue.

Fagen expressed his appreciation for the role of the Kurdistan Region in Iraq and the wider region, stressing the importance of stability and of strengthening U.S. relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region across all areas.

The meeting also addressed support for the Iraqi federal government, the importance of ensuring that weapons remain under state control, the internal situation, and the need for solidarity and unity within the Kurdistan Region. The latest regional developments were also discussed.
