Transport Fares Surge Across Cities and Towns in Syria’s Kurdistan Region

ARK News.. A sudden decision by Syria’s fuel pricing committee to raise diesel and gasoline prices on Sunday, September 13, 2026, has triggered widespread public discontent and protests, with the increase causing what local sources described as a near-total disruption of transportation services and a sharp, immediate rise in public and private transport fares.

According to local sources, the developments followed the Syrian government’s decision to raise the official price of a liter of diesel from 12,500 old Syrian pounds to 17,500 old Syrian pounds, equivalent to an increase from 125 to 175 new Syrian pounds.

Following the decision, transport fares on several routes across the region were raised as follows:

Derik – Tirbaspiye: from 150 to 250 Syrian pounds.
Derik – Qamishlo: from 350 to 500 Syrian pounds.
Tirbaspiye – Qamishlo: from 300 to 450 Syrian pounds.
Amouda – Qamishlo: 500 Syrian pounds.
Amouda – Hasaka: 600 Syrian pounds.
Amouda – Darbasiya: 500 Syrian pounds.
Qamishlo – Hasaka: from 350 to 800 Syrian pounds.

Meanwhile, the fare for local transportation within Qamishlo doubled from 50 to 100 Syrian pounds.
