Text of President Barzani’s message on the anniversary of the outbreak of the September Revolution
Today marks 65 years since the outbreak of the glorious September Revolution, that comprehensive revolution in which Peshmerga fighters, politicians, organizations, religious scholars, teachers, writers, intellectuals, youth, women, and all segments and groups of society took part in the national and democratic struggle of their people.
The September Revolution emerged from the will, dignity, and self-confidence of the individual Kurdistani, and it also established a solid and organized foundation for the continuation of the struggle of the people of Kurdistan and their resistance to injustice and oppression.
This great revolution, through its lofty values and the unprecedented resilience and determination demonstrated by its leadership, the Peshmerga, and the masses, advanced the just cause of our people by great strides. Under the leadership of the Immortal Barzani, the September Revolution became a source of strength and inspired subsequent stages of our people’s liberation struggle and Kurdish fighters in the other parts of Kurdistan.
On the 65th anniversary of this glorious revolution, I renew my appreciation for the historic role of all those heroic Peshmerga fighters and activists who took part in achieving this national glory—whether the immortal martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland’s soil during the September Revolution and ascended to the highest ranks, or the honorable sons who are still alive as living witnesses to history. These heroes were instrumental in creating glory and elevation for their people and are worthy of the highest levels of pride and honor.
Masoud Barzani
