Kurdish National Council in Syria Condemns Attack on Kurdistan Region
ARK News.. The General Secretariat of the Kurdish National Council in Syria issued a statement condemning the attack on the Kurdistan Region, specifically the personal office of Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government. It called on the Iraqi government and the international community to adopt clear and firm positions, work to halt such attacks, respect Iraq’s sovereignty, and ensure the security of the Kurdistan Region and the protection of its people.
The statement reads:
“Today, the headquarters of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region and the residence of the head of the Security and Intelligence Agency were attacked by Iranian drones, in a blatant assault on the sovereignty and security of Iraq and the stability of the Kurdistan Region, and a flagrant violation of the principles of international law.”
“These repeated attacks by the Iranian regime against the Kurdistan Region come amid an ongoing escalation and an attempt to ease the political, economic and military pressures facing Tehran by involving Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in regional and international conflicts with which they have no connection, turning Iraqi territory into an arena for settling scores.”
“These actions come at a time when efforts are being intensified to consolidate Iraq’s security and stability and preserve its sovereignty and neutrality toward regional conflicts. The leadership of the Kurdistan Region plays a responsible and pivotal role in this approach, in line with the interests of Iraq and its people, which runs counter to attempts to drag Iraq into the turmoil and conflicts of the region.”
“We, in the Kurdish National Council in Syria, strongly condemn this heinous attack and the targeting of the office of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region and the residence of the head of the Security and Intelligence Agency. We call on the Iraqi government and the international community to adopt clear and firm positions, work to halt these attacks, ensure respect for Iraq’s sovereignty and the security of the Kurdistan Region, and protect its people.”
“We also affirm that these attacks will not undermine the will of the leadership and people of the Kurdistan Region, nor will they deter them from continuing their efforts to build and strengthen stability, defend their security and rights, and move toward a safe, stable and prosperous future.”
