U.S. Says Agreement with Iran on Reopening Strait of Hormuz May Be Imminent
ARK News.. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the United States is close to reaching an agreement with Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
In an interview with CNBC on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, Bessent said an agreement with Iran on reopening the strategic waterway could be reached as early as Tuesday or Wednesday.
"We are holding talks with the Iranians," Bessent said. "I believe there is an opportunity to reach an agreement today or tomorrow on reopening the strait and moving toward a more normal situation in this conflict."
The remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to ease regional tensions and restore navigation through one of the world's most strategically important maritime routes.
