Nechirvan Barzani: Christians Are an Integral Part of the People of Kurdistan

ARK News.. Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Mar Paulus III Nona, Patriarch of the Chaldean Church in Iraq and worldwide, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

The meeting discussed the general situation of the region's communities, particularly Christians, and stressed the importance of protecting the culture of coexistence, acceptance of others, and tolerance among the various components of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

In this context, Nechirvan Barzani affirmed that Christians are an integral part of the people of Kurdistan, stressing that he will continue, as always, to safeguard their rights. He also reassured them that Kurdistan will always remain, without discrimination, a safe haven and homeland for all communities and a protector of the culture of pluralism.

For his part, the patriarch praised the historic and ongoing role of the Kurdistan Region as a safe haven for all religious and ethnic communities. He also expressed his appreciation for the continued role and support of the Kurdistan Region President in protecting the rights of all components.
