Masrour Barzani Expands Residential Land Distribution to Include Families of Martyrs and Former Political Prisoners
ARK News.. The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced a new decision by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani to expand the residential land distribution program to include additional beneficiary groups in recognition of their sacrifices.
KRG Spokesperson Peshawa Hawramani said in a press statement on Monday, July 6, 2026, that while the land distribution initiative had previously been limited to government employees, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has directed that the program also includes the families of martyrs and former political prisoners.
He confirmed that more than 20,000 residential plots have been allocated to these categories.
According to the new decision, 5,440 residential plots will be distributed to the families of trench martyrs and victims of genocide, while 15,499 plots have been allocated to former political prisoners.
Hawramani added that eligibility is limited to individuals in these categories who have not previously received residential land or benefited from similar government decisions.
He said the measure reflects the Kurdistan Regional Government's commitment to honoring the sacrifices of the families of martyrs and political activists by helping provide them with suitable housing.
