Ahmad al-Sharaa and Thomas Barrack Discuss Developments in Syria and the Region

ARK News. Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa received the U.S. special envoy to Syria, Thomas Barrack, at the People’s Palace in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
According to the Syrian Presidency, the meeting addressed the latest developments in Syria and the wider region, as well as ways to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries, in addition to issues of mutual interest.
The Presidency added that Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani also attended the meeting between President Ahmad al-Sharaa and the American envoy Thomas Barrack.
